Movement, Music & Mission
Fur & Feelings at the 5Ks: Our Humans In Action!
In January, the directors of Fur & Feelings laced up our running shoes and stepped into something new.
We participated in two community races:
The Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K
The Diplo Run Club 5K
Two different vibes. One shared purpose.
Because at Fur & Feelings, we believe wellness isn’t just something we bring into the community; it’s something we practice ourselves.
Why Movement Matters
As trauma-informed leaders, we know healing is not only cognitive, it’s also physiological.
Running regulates:
Stress hormones
Mood stability
Sleep cycles
Emotional resilience
Movement activates the nervous system in a controlled, empowering way. It reminds the body that activation doesn’t always mean danger. Sometimes it means strength.
Training for these races wasn’t about pace or performance. It was about:
Consistency.
Accountability.
Embodied wellness.
The Power of Music & Movement
The Diplo 5K was special because it ended with a live music festival. A celebration of rhythm, connection, and shared energy.
Music is regulation.
Running to a beat synchronizes breathing and movement. Rhythm helps organize the nervous system. It gives the body something predictable to follow.
When you combine: Movement + Music + Community, You create co-regulation at scale. That’s mental health in motion!
Behind the Scenes: Training Paws
Before race day medals, there were early mornings. There were neighborhood runs. There were “just one more block” moments. There were tired legs and mental resistance. And there were dogs.
Every director owns a dog, and they joined our training runs: steady, loyal, and consistent.
They didn’t care about pace. They didn’t track distance. They simply showed up. Tails wagging, leashes ready, and paws striding.
Sometimes the ones we bring comfort to are the same ones who quietly support us back.
Our dogs help our community regulate, and during training season, they helped their humans regulate too.
Community Support Means Everything
Race day wasn’t just about crossing a finish line.
Friends showed up. Supporters cheered. Medals were earned. Moments were shared. See our gallery below to share our joy. Community is part of wellness.
When people gather (whether for a literacy program, a therapy dog visit, or a 5K) something powerful happens. We remind each other that we are not alone.

Why This Connects to Our Mission
Fur & Feelings exists to expand access to trauma-informed support throughout our community.
That mission includes:
Therapy dog outreach
Education
Emotional regulation resources
And modeling whole-human wellness
We believe that leaders must embody the practices they encourage.
Movement
Music
Connection
Presence
These are not trends. They are tools.
How You Can Support
Our outreach efforts are powered by community support. If you believe in accessible, trauma-informed programming:
Consider donating to support therapy dog visits. Even $1 makes a difference.
Share our mission with a school or organization that may benefit from our support.
Show up to future community events (stay tuned with our Instagram and TikTok for future events!).
Follow along as we continue building wellness in motion. We are just getting started.
Every act of support helps us expand our impact. Together, we’re building resilient humans and emotionally nurturing therapy dogs.
